There are several different baby carriers on the market today.  It is quite easy for parents and caregivers to be quite overwhelmed with all the choices on the market.  This site is designated to provide the best professional information and feedback for baby back carriers and help you make the right choice!

Below are the 3 different types of Baby Carriers:

1. Front carriers. These type of carriers support the baby in an upright vertical position.  These fit snug to the body like a front facing backpack.  This seems to the be the choice method for newborns in the front-facing position.  As they grow older and stronger, they can be turned to face outward.  Typically, the shoulder straps are fully adjustable.  Some will offer some weight distribution and the ability to be worn on the back like a backpack.  Some will work well for nursing mothers.

2. Slings carriers. This type of carrier has the ability to cradle the baby in a softer fabric in both the vertical and horizontal positions.  This type carrier drapes across the parent’s body and over one shoulder.  Some of these carriers are padded but then some are not and made of one continuous fabric.  These are not recommended for any type of strenuous activity like running or hiking.  Hip carriers will fit in this category.  These are similar to slings and allow the baby to be in an upright position on the parent’s hip.  The advantage of slings is the ability to nurse because of the added support.

3. Backpack or Frame Carriers. This type of carrier will allow the baby to sit on the parent’s back facing forward.  This would be the choice for outdoor activities such as going to the zoo or going for a hike.  These types of baby back carriers come with many extra features and extra compartments.  There are some models that will even convert into a stroller!  These type of carriers are more suitable for older babies because the baby must be able to support his/her own head.  This type of carrier is much more comfortable for longer periods.
